The final work will be as like as below.
First take the ellipse tool and create
an ellipse. Fill it with a dark color. Then create a small ellipse above it. Fill it with light color.
Select both object and go to OBJECT > BLEND > BLENDING OPTION > SPECIFIED OPTION > 40. Then press CTRL + ALT + B or go to OBJECT > BLEND > MAKE.
Now again create an ellipse above the object. Fill it with linear gradient (White to black). Make the opacity of the black portion to 0%.
Now, go to transparency pallet. Select, the screen blending mode. Lower the opacity to 50%. You are all set. Your final work is below.
